The feeling of paint as it comes off the brush, the beauty of color as it is laid down: this is what charges me. Impacted by the colors, shapes and designs of the landscape, I am compelled to express in paint what I see and feel. I paint in the plein air tradition interpreting what is before my eyes, painting wet-into-wet with oils. |
| I earned a BFA in studio art with an emphasis in graphic design, and have worked as a graphic designer since 1987. During this period my non-design hours were filled with art and model making in all shapes and form. In 2003, the landscape began to strongly impact me. I began to see the colors, shapes and designs of the landscape as I never had before and simply experiencing what I saw was no longer enough. I was compelled to try and record and express what moved me in the landscape with paint. In 2007 my abilities gelled while studying under artist Elio Camacho, whose method of teaching has made a lasting impression. I have been painting in earnest from that time forward. |
